Lufthansa Aviation Training combines cockpit and cabin training at one Berlin location

  • Second-largest LAT location bundles aviation training under one roof in Berlin-Schönefeld
  • Ready for training: Safety training now possible in Schönefeld
  • Airline crews benefit from immediate proximity to Berlin-Brandenburg Airport

Lufthansa Aviation Training (LAT) bundles the training portfolio for cockpit and cabin crews at its second-largest location in Berlin-Schönefeld. The historically important location has been home to pilot training for more than 30 years. Since the beginning of September, safety training for crews has also been offered there. These training courses have been held in Berlin-Waltersdorf for the past 10 years.

"With the relocation of the safety training to Schönefeld, we have succeeded in using synergies and optimized space, thus acting more cost-consciously and at the same time increasing the range of services for our customers. At the same time, we are maintaining our high training standard and our customers will be looked after by their proven contact persons across all training courses," emphasizes Andrea Resch, Head of Safety, Service & CRM Training at LAT.

After the training stop in Waltersdorf on 4th August, all training equipment was dismantled there during the month and moved to Hall E of the Schönefeld training center. This includes an A320 Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainer (CEET) together with an A320 slide, a B777 slide tower, a B777 Door Trainer, a Cockpit Door Keypad Trainer, a Cockpit Emergency Exit and the Hands On Walls. A Real Fire Fighting Trainer (RFFT) has been installed outside.

"The merging of the two sites, apart from saving money, only comes with benefits. The proximity to the new capital city airport BER is particularly attractive for our customers, as is the choice of hotels at Lufthansa conditions. Now cabin and cockpit crews can complete their safety training here together," adds Holger Klein, Site Manager of the training center in Berlin. Among other things, training airline customers in Berlin-Schönefeld benefit from a 24/7 reception and a service center that assists with booking flights and accommodations.
