SPECIALIZED BASIC AND ADVANCED TRAINING FOR FLIGHT DISPATCHERS

Solving problems, quickly making the right decision, assessing risks, precise communication, and good teamwork – a good flight operations officer (FOO) demonstrates these and many other skills. From the operations control center (OCC), an FOO serves as a flight dispatcher or air traffic controller, taking over flight planning, coordination, and support during flight operations. In this crucial role, they act as a direct interface between the aircraft in the air and the ground handling services and air traffic control, as well as between the flight crew and ground crew. Their focus is always on ensuring that flights are carried out safely, efficiently, and in a manner that is not only timely, but also conscious of costs and impact on the environment.

Our Flight Operations Academy was established especially to train and develop flight operations officers and is an approved national organization of the German Federal Aviation Office for training flight dispatchers. Experienced FOO and trainers carry out both the legally required basic training and recurrent and refresher training courses at your location or at one of our training centers. Upon request, a training course can also be tailored to your individual requirements

Objective

The training courses are designed to train competent flight operations officers and to further qualify existing FOO in important key skills. Typical problematic situations in the OCC are dealt with using realistic tasks, thereby strengthening essential skills.

Procedure

The Flight Operations Officer Training course consists of three phases, with the first two phases making up the 20-week basic training. The optional third phase deals with operator- and role-specific tasks, with participants being prepared for their role in the OCC with practical methods over a period of four to six weeks.

All FOO training courses consist of phases with mandatory attendance as well as flexible distance learning that can be done from anywhere with direct remote support from our instructors.

Target Group

Our Flight Operations Academy is geared toward aviation enthusiasts without any prior training who are interested in an exciting new career at the heart of an airline. The training is also open to experienced employees from the operations side of the airline – preferably with existing flight licenses – as well as managers who are looking to provide their OCC with practical and forward-looking training.

Content

As part of the FOO Training course, the participants will be trained on the tasks within an operations control center and subsequently tested on these tasks. The training deals with the following topics, among others:

  • Risk analysis and assessment in daily flight operations, for example via flight performance, payload/range, navigation, weather, air traffic control, ground handling, aircraft maintenance, crew availability
  • Optimization processes for compliant resource allocation, for example aircraft and crew
  • Flight-planning processes, flight data analysis, assessment and allocation of information

Of course, the basic training meets the requirements of the German Federal Aviation Office. In addition, the recommendations of the future FOO Competency-Based Training and Assessment Manual of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) (document 10106) are taken into consideration.
